Spain has waited a long time for its players to win a medal at the World Championships held in Copenhagen and Carolina Marin has managed to do just that by entering into the semi – final round and assuring the Spanish of receiving a bronze medal in the least.
Carolina Marin is presently the European reigning champion and has managed to defeat eighth seeded Tai Tzu Ying from Taiwan in an astounding 19-21, 21-19, 21-11.
Marin is currently the world number 10 and have reportedly announced, “The medal or the win is not just for me, I carry Spain’s dreams upon me, and this will be my gift to all of Spain, my Coaches and the Federation. There are people who have come all the way from Spain to support me and I am honored. It was one of my primary goals to secure a medal and I have managed to do that in the least.”
In the semi – final match between Marin and Sindhu, she has managed to oust the Indian teenager who has to settle for another successive bronze at the World Championships. In the 45 minutes long battle that ensued between the women, Sindhu looked thoroughly tired and gave four straight points to Marin after she pushed a wide drop shot. Marin took advantage of Sindhu’s aggressive nature of play and turned defense into offense by tiring her opponent out. Sindhu has committed many simple mistakes in court and in the first set Marin look totally composed and in control. Sindhu smashes into Marin’s body assuring her opponent that she will not go without a fight. Sindhu smashed a cross court smash into the net and produced many such unforced errors to give Marin a comfortable win.
“She is a teenager, she needs to learn to control and not let emotions take charge. I know she has talent and will go a very long way.” Officials said.
